Class Descriptions

All Pre-Dance

Pre-Dance offers dancers a chance to explore different genres of dance. Dancers will learn the basic techniques of jazz, ballet, and tap-based movement in a fun and nurturing environment. Children will learn body alignment, body positions and terminology while developing listening skills and class etiquette.

Ballet (Levels 1 - Advanced)

The Ballet Program is divided into eight levels based on the Vaganova technique. Each level has a syllabus with guidelines to be accomplished before promotion. Dancers will focus on proper body alignment, musicality, strength, classroom etiquette, and performance qualities. Each year dancers develop their technical foundation and the true understanding of the ballet language. It is important for all dancers to be placed at the appropriate level, so they can progress and build off their technique. New dancers will be required to take a placement class to find the best level for them to succeed and thrive.

Jazz

Beginner Jazz is designed to introduce students to jazz dance. Jazz dance introduces a stylistic dance vocabulary and further development of body positioning for a fun and expressive way to dance.

Intermediate Jazz will focus on learning proper techniques such as isolations of the body, turns, kicks, leaps, and developing rhythms and patterns. Dancers will develop their strength, flexibility, and performance quality while being exposed to various styles of jazz such as musical theatre, classic and commercial.

Advanced Jazz will focus on learning proper techniques such as isolations of the body, turns, kicks, leaps, and developing rhythms and patterns at a more advanced level. Dancers will develop their strength, flexibility, and performance quality while being exposed to various styles of jazz such as musical theatre, classic and commercial.

Contemporary

Contemporary combines elements of several genres of dance including jazz, ballet, hip hop, and modern. Contemporary is an expressive style that abandons the classical forms of dance and utilizes unconventional movements to progress either a storyline or emotion. Dancers will expand their knowledge of floor work, spirals, and other concepts while developing their performance quality.

Beginner Hip Hop explores several genres of hip-hop dance culture including waacking, house, popping, waving, locking, breaking, and choreography. Dancers will learn about hip-hop culture and the proper technique to use when approaching each genre of hip-hop.
